Preventive care and better lifestyle choices could reduce annual U.S. health spending by $730 billion, according to a new report.

The study found modifiable health costs were largely due to five risks: overweight/obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, poor diet, and smoking. “Moving forward, it’s crucial to focus on preventing and managing these key risks before they turn into costly diseases,” wrote Joseph Dieleman, PhD, a senior author on the study.

MedBen WellLiving focuses on the risk factors that contribute to higher costs through a program built on wellness exams and preventive screenings. By identifying and managing chronic conditions early, WellLiving clients spend 7.6% less than those who don’t use WellLiving.
