Over the last few years, your plan has likely been amended multiple times. Along with routine yearly plan modifications, your plan has been updated in order to comply with multiple federal and/or state mandates relating to COVID-19, such as the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA).
Plans that have multiple amendments can often be difficult for participants to understand and can create confusion about their benefits or any other plan provisions.
Additionally, plans that are subject to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) are required to provide an updated Summary Plan Description (SPD) to participants every five years if any material changes are made to the SPD during that five-year period.
