Caroline Fraker, Senior Vice President & Chief Privacy Officer

Every MedBen employee is trained on ensuring the privacy of plan member information, and regularly reminded to stay vigilant for potential violations… but we remind our clients to stay vigilant, too.

To comply with the HIPAA Privacy rules, MedBen employees are trained to treat member protected health information (PHI) with upmost care.  We make sure to communicate PHI in a secure manner and have several tools to help us do just that.

When communicating with MedBen, the following can ensure you don’t compromise your plan member’s PHI and other personal information:

  • Do not send a person’s full name, address, member ID, or medical records in an email, unless utilizing a secure online portal (such as MedBen Access).
  • Do not text any of the above information to your Account Representatives.
  • Never click on a questionable link or download a file you are not expecting. Your Account Management team is always available if you need to verify the validity of a document that says it comes from MedBen.
  • If you need to discuss sensitive information, please give us a call. Calls are easy and the most efficient way to protect PHI.
  • Fax machines continue to be one of the safest methods of transferring sensitive information. Your Account Representative can provide you with a fax number.
  • If you need help accessing MedBen Secure, contact your Account Representative.

If you ever have questions about HIPAA or the proper use of PHI, you are welcome to contact Senior Vice President and Chief Privacy Office Caroline Fraker at 800-851-0907 or cfraker@medben.com.
