Every benefits administrator needs someone to make sure that its “i’s” are dotted and its “t’s” are crossed. That’s where the compliance department, headed by Caroline Fraker, comes in. As its name infers, the compliance team ensures that MedBen-administered plans adhere to existing insurance laws. The department also monitors current legislative activity to prepare groups for potential regulatory changes down the road. In addition to these responsibilities, the compliance department drafts plan documents and amendments, and reviews the previous coverage of new MedBen groups to determine credits for pre-existing conditions. Compliance also submits licensing requests to state license departments on behalf of our self-funded business. A growing area of focus for the department is privacy. Recent HIPAA guidelines require health plans to protect and restrict the use of confidential health information, while still maintaining the financial viability of the plan. Fraker has spearheaded MedBen’s efforts to ensure that the customer’s right to privacy is upheld. Back to MedBen University • Visit Information Systems
