Pregnancy requires extra attention to the special needs of mother and baby. The MedBen Babies program offers education and support to female plan members both during and after a pregnancy.

MedBen Babies does not replace the services of a doctor; rather, it serves as an additional resource for the expectant mother. By understanding how to best manage her pregnancy, she gives her baby the greatest chance of being born strong and healthy.

Employers also benefit from MedBen Babies. By identifying a high-risk pregnancy early on, the program can work with the patient’s obstetrician to control costs while still providing the proper care.

Enrollment
An expectant mother can enroll in MedBen Babies at any point during her pregnancy, from the day she learns about her condition to late into the third trimester. However, the sooner she enrolls, the more she will benefit from the program.

Following enrollment, the MedBen Babies maternity nurse will conduct a confidential telephone interview with the patient, to gather information about her personal medical history and other factors that may affect the pregnancy. In the later stages of pregnancy and following delivery, the nurse will conduct follow-up interviews to assess the patient’s progress.

Should the initial interview alert us to potential difficulties for mother or baby, a specialized nurse will help coordinate care with the patient’s health care provider. The nurse will also monitor her condition through scheduled follow-up calls.

Staying Informed
Upon registration, the patient will receive educational materials sent to their home.  These materials include Trimester: A Healthy Pregnancy Guide, a SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) pamphlet, V.I.P.S. (Very Important Pregnant Smokers, a stop smoking program), and any additional brochures which has information specific to the participants needs or questions.

After completing the program, the new mother receives coupons for discounts on formula and other necessities. But the greatest gift comes from producing a happy, healthy baby. MedBen Babies helps to make pregnancy a time of continual wellness and peace of mind.
